Week 1, Day 1

BREAKFAST:

Cheddar Cheese Omelet with Hashbrowns

Despite looking nothing like the picture on the eDiets website, the omelet and hashbrown stick were delicious! I had heard horror stories on eDiets’ message boards about how egg breakfasts were to be avoided, due to eggs tasting rubbery and gritty, however, these eggs were great! I didn’t add any condiments, not even salt or pepper. In the future, I may add salsa, or grilled mushrooms, or maybe some fresh dill, just to make it less plain. Overall though, my first meal of eDiets was very good!

Side Note: I am also trying to drink the recommended 8 glasses of water a day. My goal was to drink one 8 oz bottle of water with breakfast to get in my first “glass”. I succeeded, but felt like my stomach was going to pop when I finished! And I have been peeing nonstop since! I have no idea how I am going to drink 7 more!

LUNCH:

Oven Roasted Chicken and Black Bean Salad

Lunch looked VERY unappetizing! And NOTHING like the picture. I ate most of it… because I’m dedicated to the diet and didn’t want to throw something away the first day, but it was gross! I had to add a ton of salt to it! There were lots of chunks of unidentifiable meat floating around in it. The beans were not completely cooked. They were almost crunchy! Also, it was extremely spicy, and not in a good way! I will NOT be ordering this lunch again!

DINNER:

BBQ Chicken Breast with Roasted Red Potatoes and Corn

Dinner was delicious! I added salt, and some horseradish mustard, but it was VERY filling and good. The potatoes were my favorite part. I also had three serving of fruit and two servings of dairy saved up from the day, so I had two fruits, and both the dairy servings for dinner.

I had ¾ cup of blueberries, and 1 ½ cups strawberries, sprinkled with Splenda. And I had 1 cup of cottage cheese.

DESSERT:

Chocolate Chip Cookies

That’s right! Cookies! On a diet! And they were yummy!

Overall my first day on the diet was a success! I only managed to drink 4 ½ glasses of water though. I am working on it! I consumed a total of 1097 calories for the day. The only exercise I had was walking at work, but I wore a pedometer and found out that I walked a total of 4.4 miles!! Amazing, huh?

So that was my first day! Tomorrow is going to be even better!

There Are Squirrels Going Nuts In My Walls

February 25, 2010 Leave a comment

There are squirrels going nuts in my walls.

There has been (at least one, maybe more) squirrels living in my bedroom wall for about a month now. We have asked the landlord to fix the problem, but nothing has happened yet. They scratch and claw and chew all morning. Very annoying. Well, my husband decided to fix the problem himself. So he got this sealing stuff and sealed up the hole by the drain-pipe outside where they are getting in. The problem is… the squirrels were still inside! So for the past couple of days they have been going crazy!! They never shut up! I don’t want them to die in the walls and start stinking. But I also want them gone.

Any suggestions?

The Big Day!!

February 25, 2010 Leave a comment

So today was the big day! The start of my diet!

Except my food didn’t arrive until almost 3pm. =(

Soooo….. diet starts tomorrow!

I have to admit that I spent most of the day waiting (not so patiently) for the FedEx guy to get here! And when he finally arrived, it was like Christmas! He handed me a HUGE box. I opened it and there was a big piece of Styrofoam, which I discarded. Then there was a bunch of air bags. I throw those over my shoulder, too. Next was a white package. I ripped it open and there was a pedometer and a box with three CD’s of workout music. (more on that later) Then I got to the food. I was surprised at how cold the air in the box was! It was like a fridge! I took all the food out and sorted it and looked at it and packed it in the fridge according to day. I was sooo excited I seriously felt like a kid on Christmas morning! I really can’t wait to start now!

So, while I was waiting for my food to arrive, I decided to do my first weigh in on Wii Fit and do some of the exercises. My Wii insulted me twice before I even stepped on! First thing it said to me was “We haven’t seen James lately. You should pay more attention to James.” Lol, a video game telling me to pay more attention to my husband! He loved that! THEN the Wii said that if you pay more attention to your dog, they will be happier. So within 3 minutes, the Wii told me to pay more attention to my husband and dog!! Anyway… on the the results of my first weigh-in:

Weight: 232 lbs.

BMI: 41.09

So my weight has mysteriously gone from 240 to 232 before I even started! Lol. Well we are going to go with a starting weight of 232, officially. So that means that my goal weight is 132 lbs! However, my first goal is to get my BMI from “morbidly obese”, which it is now, to just obese.

After I did my weigh-in, I did the yoga exercises on Wii Fit, and played the balance games. Grand total of 27 minutes.

Reasons for Having a Healthy Diet and Exercise Routine

February 24, 2010 Leave a comment

There are lots of reasons for choosing a healthy diet and exercise routine, but the main one, for me at least, is to feel better! When you eat right and exercise, you just feel better! You have more energy, you aren’t bloated, you are more confident, and you feel good about yourself. I don’t just want to lose weight, I want to be healthy! Here are some of the reasons that I want to be healthy:

  • To feel better!
  • To live longer!
  • To look better!
  • To make a better first impression.
  • To avoid health problems related to obesity in the future. (High blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease, diabetes, etc.)

Tomorrow’s the big day! My food comes in and the diet starts! Wish me luck!

The Last Supper

February 24, 2010 Leave a comment

So I just had the last “real” meal that I am going to have for a long time. I paid absolutely no attention to calories, carbs, fat grams, or any other nutritional information! My husband, James, and I went to Olive Garden. Here’s what I ate:

  • Smoked Mozzarella Fonduta—a blend of smoked mozzarella, provolone, Parmesan, and Romano cheeses, baked until it’s an oozing, dripping, greasy, cheesy goodness, served with Tuscan bread. 940 calories
  • Chicken Pansotti— Pyramid-shaped ravioli filled with mozzarella, ricotta, asiago, and parmesan cheese, with chicken, smothered in a portabello mushroom alfredo sauce. 1230 calories
  • Venetian Sunset—Martini Asti and Rossi, pineapple juice, cherry juice. 190 calories
  • Zeppolis—Italian donuts with chocolate sauce. 1130 calories.
  • Dr. Pepper (2)—200 calories
  • Salad—350 calories

That’s a grand total of 4040 calories!!!! All in one meal!! (Of course we did share the appetizer and dessert, and I didn’t finish my entrée, so this isn’t entirely accurate.) Sadly, this is how I have been eating several times a week for about the last year! No wonder I have gained 40 lbs in one year!!

I’m more excited to begin this diet and exercise program than ever now!

Couch to 5K

February 24, 2010 Leave a comment

So I posted yesterday about how I’m going to start the Couch to 5K program. Well I found an exercise buddy! Hopefully my friend Breah is going to run with me! This is great because I am not the best morning person, so it’s going to take a lot for me to drag myself out of bed to run! Also, at the end of May, which is a couple of weeks after we should finish the Couch to 5K and be able to run a 5k, there is going to be a 5K race in my hometown! So it will be the perfect goal! I never thought that I would ever say this, but I’m going to run a 5K!!

My Wakeup Call

February 24, 2010 Leave a comment

I have always been a heavy person.

When I graduated high school I weighed about 160 lbs.

When I got married (little over a year later) I weighed about 180 lbs.

A year ago (Jan. 2009) I weighed about 200 lbs.

Today I weigh 240 lbs.

I have tried diets and exercises, but never have the willpower to stick to them. Then, a couple of weeks ago I received a massive wakeup call.

It was a few days after Valentine’s Day and I was working at Olive Garden. I was waiting on a couple who was celebrating their 14th wedding anniversary. I was shocked when they told me that they were married. I had been expecting them to be business partners, or brother and sister. The reason that I did not assume they were married was because the man was very attractive and physically fit. The woman, however, weighed about 350 lbs. You could tell that she had probably been pretty at one time, but now her face was so swollen that you could barely see even a hint of it! Now I want to say that I felt horrible for thinking this, and I feel even worse blogging about it, but it had such an impact on me and my decision to lose weight that I am. I couldn’t stop thinking about the couple for days! All I could think is “I don’t want to be like that some day!” I don’t want to be a fat, unattractive woman celebrating my wedding anniversary with a man who is waaay out of my league!

So I made the decision to lose 100 lbs. And here I am.

Last few days for eating real food!

February 23, 2010 Leave a comment

So, I’m starting the eDiets meal delivery diet on Friday, so I only have a couple of days left for real food!  I know it’s not the greatest idea in the world, but I’m enjoying them! Ate at Chili’s tonight. Had the appetizer sampler with spinach dip/chicken strips/and egg rolls. Ended up not eating the egg rolls or most of the chicken though. The spinach dip was delicious though!

On Friday I am starting an exercise program as well as the diet. I’m going to do the “Couch to 5K” running program.  Here is the website:  http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml.  You walk/jog three days a week and work your way up to running. I’m super excited!

Can’t wait to get started!!

Hello World!

February 23, 2010 Leave a comment

Hello world!

My name is Kelli and I am a dieting waitress. On Thursday I will receive my first shipment of food from a food delivery diet service. I have tried many diets in the past and none have worked! I always cheat, or get lazy and order pizza rather than cook something healthy. I feel like using a meal delivery diet will work for me because I don’t have to cook or count calories. I just eat what they send me! I’m super excited and can’t wait to start!

Currently my weight is 240 lbs. I am 5′ 3″ tall. My BMI is 42.5, which is obese. My goal is to lose 100 lbs by February 25. When I lose 20 pounds I will reward myself by getting my nails done. At fifty pounds I will go on a shopping spree. At 75 pounds I will get a new computer. And at 100 pounds I am going on a vacation! Every 10 pounds I will by one new article of clothing. And I might change these rewards… just an idea for right now.

I’m excited to begin! Thanks for going on this journey with me!
